Every year around the holidays, veterinarians report a jump in cases of pancreatitis and other stomach problems in their canine clients. What's to blame? Usually, too many table scraps from rich holiday meals. Beware of these potentially upsetting foods: Turkey bones -- They easily break into small, sharp pieces, which not only are choking hazards but also can become lodged in the intestinal tract or stomach and possibly pierce them.Bread dough -- If swallowed, bread dough will expand in your pet's stomach, producing excess gas.Onions and garlic -- Just one serving of onion contains dangerously high levels of thiosulfate, which is known to damage red blood cells and could result in anemia.Grapes and raisins -- They may cause kidney failure in dogs.Holiday plants -- Holly, mistletoe, poinsettia, and hibiscus can be poisonous to pets.
