Aerial spraying planned for tonight (8/16) – protect your pets!

The City of Dallas has announced that aerial spraying is planned for tonight (8/16), beginning at 10 p.m. through around 1 a.m. Dallas County’s chosen product, Duet, is a pyrethroid insecticide that is a “quick knockdown” control for mosquitoes, gnats, biting and nonbiting midges and black flies, according to the product label from manufacturer Clarke Mosquito Control. The label says Duet is “toxic to aquatic organisms, including fish and aquatic invertebrates” and kills bees “exposed to direct treatment on blooming crops or weeds.”  It also contains distilled petroleum.
Please take the following precautions to keep you, your pets and wildlife safe:
·         People and pets should stay indoors when neighborhood spraying is scheduled. Cats are particularly sensitive to the insecticide being used.
  • ·         Cover your ponds to protect aquatic life.
  • ·         Take down or cover bird feeders and bird baths.
  • ·         Pick up your outdoor pet’s water and food dishes.  If any dishes remain outside while our neighborhood is being sprayed, wash them well before using them again

Additional aerial spraying may occur – watch for updated schedules and remember to take these precautions each time spraying occurs.
